What is the Master Library?
The Master Library stores reusable templates for financial items you may want in multiple scenarios. Library Items are not active scenario records and do not affect a projection until they are copied into a scenario.
Using templates can reduce repetitive entry and keep commonly reused names, amounts, recurrence settings, and dates consistent at the moment you add them.
What belongs in it?
- Income sources you expect to reuse across plans
- Bills such as housing, insurance, loans, or subscriptions
- Living Cost estimates for recurring household spending
- Positive or negative one-time event templates
The Library is most useful for items that recur across scenarios. An assumption unique to one scenario can be created directly in that scenario instead.
Adding Library Items to scenarios
- 1
Open the matching scenario section
Income, Bills, Living Costs, and One-Time Events each show the relevant Library Item type.
- 2
Choose Add from Library
Search the available templates and select one or more complete items.
- 3
Choose Add to Scenario
The application creates new scenario records using the selected template values.
Library Items versus scenario items
The scenario copy keeps a reference to its source Library Item for traceability, but it has its own identity and values. Add the template again if you want a new copy that uses the Library's latest settings.
Editing and deleting Library Items
Editing changes the template for future copies. Deleting removes the template from the Master Library, while existing scenario copies remain in their scenarios with their current values.
An incomplete Library Item cannot be added to a scenario. Correct its required fields in the Library before trying again.
Recommended organization
- Use names that will still make sense outside the scenario where you first considered the item.
- Keep one template for each meaningfully different recurrence or amount.
- Use descriptions to record the assumption behind an estimate.
- Review start dates before copying older templates into a new scenario.
- Remove templates you no longer reuse; existing scenario copies will remain.
